The front end of multimodal sensor measures various important signals

Analog Devices ADPD6000 multi-modal sensor front end, is highly integrated, designed to measure a variety of important signals. The device is housed in a 2.6mm × 2.6mm, 0.4mm pitch, 36-ball WLCSP. AFE optical channels are created as optical modules that stimulate up to 4 LEDs and measure the return signal at 4 independent current inputs.

The signal chain rejects signal skew and corruption from asynchronous modulation interference, typically from ambient light, eliminating the need for optical filters or externally controlled DC cancellation circuits. Creating ECG acquisitions supports low noise and diagnostic level measurements with various interferences. The ECG signal chain has several complementary functions that support ECG measurements, such as a drive reference for common-mode rejection and lead detection to identify dropped electrodes.

The BIA signal chain is designed for bulk impedance measurements with configurable excitation and measurement paths. A 12-bit DAC is used in the excitation path to generate sine waves and high precision measurements, and a configurable filter is used to measure the response of the stimulus body. Data output and functional configuration use the SPI on the ADPD6000. Control circuitry includes flexible LED signal and sync detection, digital filters, digital wave generators, and configurable filters.
